An integral piece of our mission is to offer community members from all walks of life to engage with nature, connect with neighbors, learn about the food system, and gain valuable farming and herbalism skills through hands-on learning.
We run programs that offer job training, community service hours, and opportunities to engage in a more sustainable lifestyle.
High School Saturdays

Newhall Fields hosts volunteer sessions on Saturday mornings during the shoulder seasons, and holds special slots for the high school students in our community looking to earn community service hours. We work collaboratively with local schools, such as Peabody Veterans Memorial High School, Essex Tech, Salem High, and others to reach students who are interested in agriculture, sustainability, or working outside to help them gain educational experience at a working production farm right in their neighborhood. Please note: we do not host Saturdays during the months of July & August.

Youth Crew
We host our youth crew program for the months of July & August, where a group of high school-aged students are hired to work as part-time interns at the farm. The interns focus on job readiness skills, agricultural skills, experiential learning, food safety, cooperative working, and so much more. They participate in harvesting, washing and packing produce, cultivating plants, herb garden maintenance, drying herbs, and general field work. Under the mentorship of our youth crew leader, they form a tight-knit cohort each summer and are invaluable to moving the farm’s mission forward.

Northeast Arc
Our partnership with Northeast Arc is as old as the farm itself. Participants have been helping dig beds at the farm since 2018, and they continue to attend volunteer sessions weekly in the growing season. They participate in farming tasks, job readiness skills, and hands-on learning about conservation and farming.
Field Trips & Team-Building Days

We offer opportunities for local schools, organizations, and businesses to get involved in giving back to the community while learning about regenerative agriculture and community farming. In addition to our regular volunteer sessions, we host field trips, one-off community service, and team-building days.
